STEVEN MATTHEWS

H.T. Grill has had the privilege of having Chef Steven Matthews on board for over 14 years!

Take a peek at some of his accomplishments.....

1974-77 ~ Worked in a family restaurant since 12 years old (are we giving away too much here?), learning his way around a kitchen and how to use a knife.

1977-81 ~ Windsor Restaruant, Dracut, Massachusetts, where he worked his way from a "Dishwasher" to "Sous Chef", serving parties up to 1,000 people with Chef, and running smaller parties alone.

1981 ~ This was a tranquil time....ahhh, yes. Steven travelled accross the country for 3 months (by Van) enjoying regional cuisines of the good 'ol United States of America. Thankfully for us, this is the beginning of his career on the West Coast.

1981-82 ~ Accepted position of "Kitchen Manager" at "Hot Licks Cafe" (a very small French concept in Culver City). Welcome to So Cal, Steve!

1981-83 ~ Worked his way from "Line Cook" to "Co-Chef" at acclaimed "Charmer's Market" in Santa Monica. And, all while holding down two jobs!

1982-83 ~ Worked at "Trumps" in West Hollywood under acclaimed Chef, Michael Roberts.

1983 ~ Guess who's got the travel bug again? This time it's off to Thailand and Burma while experiencing regional Asian Cuisines

1984-92 ~ "Executive Chef" at "The Rose Cafe" in Venice. Congratulations! While there, Steven was written up in many publications including; "Gourmet, "Bon Apetit", "Evening Outlook", "The Arganaught", "L.A. Weekly"," Palisades Post" and "Venice Magazine". And, our star also appeared on the T.V. Show "Fridays at Sunset"!

1985 ~ Acknowledged as "Cerfified Executive Chef" by the "American Culinary Federation", and became a member of the "Chefs de Cuisine of Southern California".

1986-2006 ~ Catered over 200 events and parties including movie premieres and the opening of Los Angeles Museum of Contemporary Art. Guests have included Presidential Candidates, U.S. Senators, Film, Television and Music Stars, from Hillary Clinton to Barbara Streisand, Robin Williams to Courtney Love! Wow....and all through this, he managed to remain humble and kept us his excellent stantard of delivering great H.T. Grill cuisine.

1988-91 ~ Chef Instructor for U.C.L.A. extension. Taught professional cooking techniques I, II and III, as well as seminars such as "Flavorful Vegetarian Cuisine"

1990 ~ Well, all that hard work and dedication has earned another trip overseas....this time Europe, experiencing the cuisines of Paris, Rome, Venice, Barcelona and Munich.

1992-Present ~ Executive Chef for Hennessey's Tavern, Inc. and Executive Chef for the company's H.T. Grill. Appeared in numerous publications. Appeared on television shows. Was the cover photo for the "Easy Reader" South Bay Dining Guide in 2003. Produced numerous wine and beer dinners, pairing food and beverages for the many Hennessey's Taverns.
